The Objective

UK shoppers think of peanut butter as a breakfast food, specifically a spread for toast. There is high product awareness but a narrow perception of possible uses. How might we show that Whole Earth peanut butter can be used creatively beyond breakfast?

The Solution

Create video assets to demonstrate Autumnal quick recipes in a fun and eye-catching stop-motion style. Capture the brand's 'Conquer Autumn' visual design language with an art directed flat-lay composition and thoughtful prop selection.

Design Planning & Research

This is the first step in building a successful shot. I will use sketches, test shots and test stop-motion sequences to build a composition and a method for the final deliverable. Lighting is a key consideration. I work through a process of metering and controlling the light as I set up the subject and props to achieve the planned result.

I will set up a shoot like this with controlled lighting, I work fast but an elaborate flatlay stop-motion inevitably takes time and this means that ambient light can change over the course of the shoot—making a lighting setup essential. With these shoots I needed soft shadows on the objects for a natural daylight feel, achieved with a small softbox and a shoot-through umbrella.

Interactive Prototype

After screen designs and user flows are completed I build an interactive prototype. Once complete, usability and user flows can be assessed and validated and user testing with customers begins.

Part of creative agency, Cubaka's brief for the Whole Earth autumn campaign was to leverage the social media buzz around British Sandwich Week. The content must work across channels and embody Whole Earth Foods' Autumn Visual Identity while highlighting the product's versatility.
