I've included the table above to give you a guide to how I work out my estimates. With short projects (such as events) thinking in terms of hours makes sense—but often I'll quote for a project based on your shot list and my estimate of the time and equipment needed to achieve it.
My pricing includes location based product photography.
A half day is usually 4 hours and a full day 8 hours.
Prices are in GBP and are valid as of January 2023.
The prices detailed here are all inclusive. I don't add additional charges for standard editing, (which should be all you need) and I don't add additional usage and licensing fees. Expenses are charged only for locations outside of the M25.
The time it takes to capture your images. I base my quotes on the likely time it will take to shoot your images.
The photographs taken. I don’t hold images back and offer them for an additional cost later.
My expertise. I'm a trained photographer and have worked in the creative industry since the mid 90's. My experience spans advertising, creative, digital and social media agencies from freelance to founder.
The time to process your images. I will crop, colour balance, sharpen, focus stack as necessary and perform a standard retouch. It generally takes at least as long to edit and process images as it does to capture them. I don't charge any extra fees for standard processing and editing. Additional costs may be incurred for special requests such as removing a large object from an image (e.g. a car or a chair or a person) but I will always make sure costs are agreed ahead of time.
Supply of your high resolution images. I will supply your images electronically.
A license (the right to use your images). I don't usually apply time limits on how long you can use the images or how many times you use them, but there may be restrictions on how you use them which will be detailed in your quote (this restriction usually only applies to large scale, world-wide, non-web advertising campaigns).
Storage I aim to store all of your original photos digitally for at least 1 year.
Free post-production advice. I can answer any questions you may have about colour, printing or digital reproduction, or possibilities for more elaborate retouching and photo manipulation beyond the initial edit.
Public liability insurance. Up to £2 million.
Basic image processing. Cropping, editing for colour balance, sharpening, focus stacking, corrections for geometry and basic retouching (e.g. chewing gum from pavements, visible dust, leaves, carpet fluff etc.) is included in the price you pay for me to take your photos.
Enhanced image processing and Photoshop work if required is charged at £84 per hour or part thereof. This is typically to address special requests to remove specific objects from photos, such as people, chairs, lamps, electrical sockets, air conditioners, signage etc).
If expenses are required I will clearly detail these on your quote, but in general:
Mileage is charged for all projects outside of the M25 at £0.75 per mile.
Travel time is charged for all projects over two hours away from my base in London (SW10). I charge nothing for the first two hours (in each direction) then £30 for each additional hour (in each direction) rounded up to the full hour.
Hotels and expenses (if required) are charged at cost.
